OpenClaw is an open-source AI Agent platform -- think of it as a digital companion living on your computer or server that can manage your calendar, set reminders, research topics, and write articles. By default, it communicates with you through Telegram or a web interface.
But what if you want to chat with it directly in WeChat? Now you can.
WeChat recently introduced a "Plugins" feature, and one of the available plugins -- WeChat ClawBot -- bridges OpenClaw and WeChat. Here's the complete setup process. I just walked through it myself, so I've flagged all the gotchas for you.
Step 1: Update WeChat to the Latest Version
The plugin feature requires WeChat version 8.0.70 or later. Open WeChat, go to "Me > Settings > About WeChat" and check your version number. If it's older, update from your app store.

Step 2: Find the WeChat ClawBot Plugin
In WeChat, navigate to: Me > Settings > Plugins.

Look for "WeChat ClawBot" in the plugin list -- its description reads "Connect OpenClaw to WeChat". Tap to open it.

Step 3: Run the Install Command on Your Host
Inside the ClawBot detail page, you'll see an install command:
npx -y @tencent-weixin/openclaw-weixin-cli@latest install

Important: This command is NOT run on your phone. You need to open a terminal on the computer or cloud server where OpenClaw is already installed, paste this command, and run it.
If you talk to your OpenClaw via Telegram, it's even easier -- just tell it to run the command, and it'll handle the installation itself.
Step 4: Scan the QR Code
After installation, OpenClaw will generate a QR code and send it to you.

The QR code expires in 2 minutes, so have WeChat ready and scan immediately when you see it.
Scan the QR code with WeChat -- this essentially adds your AI assistant as a "friend" contact.
Step 5: Start Chatting
Once the scan succeeds, your AI assistant will appear in WeChat under the name you previously configured. Just send a message -- set reminders, ask questions, give commands -- exactly like you would in Telegram.

That's it. Three minutes, and your AI assistant now has a WeChat entry point.
Tips
- If the QR code expires, just ask your OpenClaw to generate a new one
- WeChat ClawBot is essentially a message bridge -- your data stays on your own computer/server, not routed through any third party
- You can keep both Telegram and WeChat as entry points simultaneously -- messages are synced across both
